### World’s Largest Captive Crocodile Cassius Dies in Australia
The renowned crocodile, Cassius, known as the largest in captivity, has passed away at a wildlife sanctuary in Australia. The Marineland Melanesia Crocodile Habitat & Gift Shop conveyed the sorrowful news on Facebook, expressing their profound grief over the loss of Cassius.
"It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved mate Cassius," the post read. "He was more than just a crocodile; he was a cherished member of our family and brought joy and companionship to his best mate George for over 37 years." Cassius' health had been in decline since October 15, according to the sanctuary's announcement. The habitat extended their gratitude to all those who visited Cassius during his lifetime and "offered kindness along the way."
Cassius, a saltwater crocodile, was presumed to be at least 110 years old, as reported by the BBC, though the exact age remains uncertain. "He was very old and believed to be living beyond the years of a wild croc. Cassius will be deeply missed, but our love and memories of him will remain in our hearts forever," the post continued.
In 2011, Cassius achieved a remarkable milestone by being recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest crocodile in captivity, measuring an impressive 17 feet.
