In a disappointing turn of events, Lando Norris expressed his disappointment with himself for throwing away his chance of victory at the Spanish Grand Prix. The British driver finished in second place behind Max Verstappen, but took full responsibility for his performance. However, Norris remains determined to challenge for this season's world championship.

Starting on pole position, Norris slipped to third at the opening corner, trailing the Mercedes of George Russell and Verstappen's Red Bull. This setback cost Norris both position and pace on the track, as his efforts to regain lost ground fell short, ending the race just 2.2 seconds behind Verstappen.

Reflecting on the race, Norris admitted, "Today we were the quickest, we had the best car, I had a nice car out there, and I didn't maximize it." Acknowledging that the poor start was his own doing, he lamented the missed opportunity and emphasized the importance of executing team instructions effectively.

Despite the setback, Norris's resurgence during the race was commendable. However, he recognized that the damage inflicted at the start ultimately proved too much to overcome. Speaking about his performance, he remarked, "I think we quite easily had the best car out there today, I just didn't do a good enough job off the line, and then that one thing cost me everything. From turn two onwards, I don't think I could have done much more."

With his second-place finish, Norris has now moved up to second in the world drivers' championship, trailing Verstappen by 69 points with 14 races remaining. The McLaren driver remained optimistic, highlighting that his team's pace is now closely matched with Red Bull. Norris expressed his belief in their ability to contend for the title but emphasized the need to execute their plans flawlessly in the future.

Acknowledging the importance of closing the gap to Verstappen, Norris explained, "Even though I've moved into second in the championship, that doesn't matter, it's more about the gap to what Max is, and he's still extending it." He stressed the urgency to prevent Verstappen from running away with the championship at this stage of the season, emphasizing McLaren's capability to challenge for the title.

Heading into the upcoming races, Norris is determined to improve his performance, stating, "We can do it. It's just about putting it all together." With the potential of a competitive car and his unwavering resolve, Norris aims to bounce back and keep the fight alive for the championship.

Although the Spanish Grand Prix did not bring the desired result for Norris, his self-assessment and determination reflect a driver eager to raise his game and challenge the championship leader. Fans can expect thrilling battles on the track as Norris continues to fight for glory in the remaining races of the season.
