Lakewood Church in Houston resumed services on Sunday, following a violent incident that occurred a week prior, resulting in the death of the shooter, Genesse Moreno, and injuries to her young son and another man. During the service, prayers were offered for the injured individuals, including Moreno, while Pastor Joel Osteen commended the local law enforcement and church security team for their swift actions in minimizing the harm caused.
Osteen expressed his pride in the heroic efforts of the police and security personnel and mentioned ongoing efforts to enhance security measures at the church. He recounted being in the church lobby when the incident unfolded, initially unaware of the situation until staff members alerted him. The pastor confirmed the presence of several dozen police officers, both in uniform and in plain clothes, present at each service.
Regarding Moreno's 7-year-old son, who sustained critical injuries in the incident, updates on his condition were provided by his former mother-in-law later in the week. The child remains hospitalized, with the circumstances of the shooting still under investigation.
As Lakewood Church moves forward from the tragic event, the pastor and congregation are grateful for the support of law enforcement and remain committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all attendees.
