The move brings two experienced coaches with a combined 31 seasons of head-coaching experience to the team.

Nate McMillan, 59, was previously the coach of the Atlanta Hawks until his departure on February 21st. He took over as the interim coach for the Hawks in 2021, leading them to an impressive run to the Eastern Conference finals. His efforts earned him a four-year contract extension with the team. With a career record of 760-668, McMillan has had successful stints with the Seattle Supersonics, Portland Trail Blazers, and the Indiana Pacers. Throughout his career, he has guided his teams to 11 playoff appearances, posting a record of 28-48.

Scott Brooks, on the other hand, was serving as an assistant coach with the Portland Trail Blazers under Chauncey Billups before joining the Lakers. Previously, he spent five seasons as the head coach of the Washington Wizards from 2016 to 2021. Prior to that, Brooks had a successful tenure with the Oklahoma City Thunder, leading them to the NBA Finals. With a career record of 521-414, Brooks brings a wealth of experience to the Lakers' coaching staff. In the playoffs, he holds a record of 49-48.

JJ Redick, who recently signed a four-year contract to become the head coach of the Lakers, will benefit from the expertise and guidance of both McMillan and Brooks. Redick, a former NBA player known for his prolific three-point shooting, brings a deep understanding of the game. Despite his lack of coaching experience, Redick has stayed connected to basketball through various media outlets, including co-hosting a podcast with LeBron James called "Mind the Game" and providing commentary for ESPN and ABC during the NBA Finals.

The addition of McMillan and Brooks to Redick's staff demonstrates the Lakers' commitment to assembling a seasoned and knowledgeable coaching team. With the combined experience of these two assistant coaches, the Lakers aim to further strengthen their coaching staff in their pursuit of success in the NBA.
