The National Weather Service has officially called off the lake effect snow warning for Central New York as the two-day storm is finally winding down. The warning, which had been scheduled to end at 7 p.m., was called off earlier today due to minimal travel impacts.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered snow showers will continue throughout the afternoon and into the evening, but the overall effects on travel will be minimal. However, it is important to note that winds of 15 mph or more could still continue blowing the snow around until midnight tonight.

The lake effect snow began late Wednesday, creating a narrow band that settled over Central New York and persisted until early afternoon today. By the early morning hours, at least seven spots in Madison and Oneida counties were blanketed with a foot of snow.

Although more snowfall was recorded throughout the day, official totals will not be compiled until this evening or tomorrow morning. As the storm finally comes to an end, residents in Central New York can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the worst is behind them.
