The animated film is expected to secure the number one spot with a solid $8.8 million, setting its sights on reaching the coveted $100 million milestone.
Warner Bros.' blockbuster, "Dune: Part Two," which is entering its third week of release, will put up a fierce fight for the top spot against "Kung Fu Panda 4." With its eye on a $28 million haul, "Dune: Part Two" is projected to surpass $200 million domestically and an impressive $400 million globally. The science-fiction sequel also has a strong chance of surpassing its predecessor's lifetime worldwide box office earnings of $433 million.
Among the new releases, Lionsgate's family film "Arthur the King," starring Mark Wahlberg, emerged as the sole contender in the top five. The movie garnered around $3 million on its opening day, inclusive of the $825,000 from Thursday previews. It is expected to bring in approximately $8 million during its debut weekend, falling short of the $14 million earned by Channing Tatum's similar film "Dog" in 2022. However, the positive reception from opening day audiences, indicated by the film's A CinemaScore, suggests potential longevity for "Arthur the King."
As for the other films in the top five, Lionsgate's horror film "Imaginary" is projected to earn a little over $4 million in its second weekend, bringing its total domestic earnings to $17 million. Angel Studios' "Cabrini" is estimated to make just over $2.5 million in its second weekend, crossing the $10 million mark domestically by Sunday.
In addition to the box office showdown, A24's "Love Lies Bleeding" is expected to bring in approximately $2.3 million as it expands nationwide this weekend. Meanwhile, Paramount's hit film "Bob Marley: One Love" continues its successful run, inching closer to the $100 million mark with an estimated fifth weekend haul of $2.2 million.
The box office landscape is shaping up to be an exciting one, with "Kung Fu Panda 4" leading the charge and eyeing a significant milestone, while other films vie for their share of success. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates on the weekend box office results.
