In an exciting announcement for basketball fans, the NBA has unveiled the full 2024-25 schedule, providing a glimpse into what the upcoming season holds for the New York Knicks. However, upon closer inspection, it appears that the schedule makers have not done the Knicks any favors with a demanding start to the season.

The Knicks will kick off their campaign with a tough road game against the defending champions, the Celtics, on October 22. In fact, seven of their first ten games will be played away from home, including a grueling four-game, four-city road trip that starts in Miami against the Heat on October 30 and concludes in Atlanta against the Hawks on November 6.

To add further difficulty, the Knicks will face off against teams that made it to the postseason last year in the majority of their initial matches. Out of the ten teams they will go up against, only two failed to reach the playoffs. This challenging start, coupled with the fact that key players Jalen Brunson, Mitchell Robinson, and Julius Randle are returning from surgeries, may potentially result in a slow start for the Knicks.

In an interesting twist, former Knick Isaiah Hartenstein will meet his old team on January 3 when the Thunder visit Oklahoma City. This reunion is sure to evoke a warm reception when the Thunder come to the iconic Madison Square Garden a week later, especially if Mitchell Robinson is fit and able to play. It is worth noting that the Knicks currently lack a true backup center, which adds to the stakes of Robinson's health.

Another exciting development in the schedule is the back-to-back games against the Nets, where newly-acquired Knick Mikal Bridges will reunite with his former teammates at MSG on November 15 and 17. Fans can anticipate a warm reception for Bridges, especially given the expected presence of enthusiastic Knicks fans. Additionally, Bridges will return to Barclays Center on January 21 for yet another encounter with his former team.

Fortunately for the Knicks, January brings a relatively softer month with a majority of their games being played at the Garden. Out of their 15 games during this period, 11 will be hosted at home, including a five-game homestand from January 6-13 against the Magic, Raptors, Thunder, Bucks, and Pistons. This period of respite comes after a two-game trip to Oklahoma City and Chicago on January 3-4, and the Knicks will not have to venture outside the Northeast region for the remainder of the month.

As the season progresses, the Knicks face a challenging stretch from February 21 through March 17, with ten games scheduled against teams that made the playoffs last year. This includes a pivotal five-game West Coast trip that features matchups against the Lakers, Warriors, and Kings, along with visits to Cleveland, Boston, and Memphis. Even when playing at home during this period, the Knicks will have to contend with formidable opponents like the 76ers and Heat.

Lastly, the Knicks are set to have an impressive 34 games broadcast on national television in the new season. This is a significant increase from the 25 games they had televised last year and solidifies their status as a team of national interest. They are tied with the Celtics for the third-highest number of national TV appearances, trailing only the Lakers with 39 and the Warriors with 36.

Overall, the Knicks' 2024-25 schedule presents both challenges and exciting matchups that promise an action-packed season for basketball enthusiasts. While a demanding start and formidable opponents pose hurdles, the team's return to full strength, reunions with former players, and an increased national TV presence add anticipation and intrigue to the upcoming campaign.
