In an eagerly awaited announcement, Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed on Thursday that he will continue to be the one calling the offensive plays for the team in the upcoming season. This decision puts an end to speculation and provides clarity regarding the leadership of the Browns' offense.

Addressing beat reporters in a news conference, Stefanski stated, "I'm going to call the plays next year, so I'm going to get that out of the way. Any decision I make for our football team, I take a lot of information in. I try to listen to a lot of people and make decisions."

Stefanski expressed confidence in his offensive staff, particularly highlighting coach Ken Dorsey and the entire offensive team. "I feel really strongly about coach Dorsey and the entire offensive staff, so we will continue to be an operation that works together. It's never been a one-man show."

The decision regarding the play-calling duties was a crucial one for the Cleveland Browns as they kicked off their training camp this week. Following their wild-card playoff loss to the Houston Texans, Stefanski made changes by parting ways with Alex Van Pelt as offensive coordinator and appointing Dorsey to the role.

Stefanski has primarily assumed the play-calling responsibilities since joining the Browns in 2020. The only exception was during the wild-card win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2020 season when he was sidelined due to COVID-19. Van Pelt called the plays during that game.

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Stefanski will continue to devise the playbook and send the plays to quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson's playing time was limited to six games last season due to shoulder injuries. Despite the challenges, the Browns managed to finish 16th in total yards and tied for 10th in points during the 2023 season, with multiple quarterbacks including Dorian Thompson-Robinson, P.J. Walker, and Joe Flacco making appearances.

As the Browns gear up for the new season, Stefanski's decision to retain play-calling duties showcases his confidence in his offensive staff and reinforces the team's collaborative approach to success. With stability in the play-calling department, the Browns will strive to build upon their previous accomplishments and further elevate their offensive game.
