In a statement released by his attorney on Monday, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has addressed his connection to a multi-vehicle hit-and-run crash that occurred on the Central Expressway in Dallas over the weekend. The crash involved six vehicles and resulted in four minor injuries.

Rice expressed his concern for the victims in the statement, saying, "On behalf of Rashee Rice, his thoughts are with everyone impacted by the automobile accident." The 23-year-old football player assured that he is cooperating fully with local authorities and will take all necessary steps to address the situation responsibly.

The Dallas Police Department had been searching for Rice following the incident, but the nature of their involvement has not been confirmed. The crash took place on Saturday around 6:25 p.m. in the 6600 block of northbound Central Expressway. According to the police, a Chevrolet Corvette and a Lamborghini were speeding in the far-left lane when the Lamborghini struck the center median wall and lost control. This caused a chain reaction involving four additional cars.

One of the vehicles involved in the crash was either leased or registered to Rice, although it remains unclear whether he was driving or a passenger in one of the suspected sports cars. News outlets in Dallas reported that the occupants of the Lamborghini and Corvette fled the scene without providing insurance information to the victims.

Dashcam footage obtained by ABC affiliate WFAA aligns with the narrative released by the police, which suggests that the Lamborghini and Corvette were engaged in street racing at the time of the collision. As of Sunday afternoon, Dallas County jail records did not show Rice being booked or considered a suspect in the incident.

Legal experts weighed in on the potential implications for Rice should charges arise from the crash. Defense attorney Todd Shapiro explained that Rice would likely face serious penalties if he was the driver of one of the involved vehicles. The possibility of charges including street racing, leaving the scene of an accident, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon were mentioned by Shapiro, depending on the evidence provided by law enforcement.

Criminal defense attorney Ali Young also provided insights, stating that individuals involved in the crash might escape more severe penalties like DWI or intoxication assault charges if there is insufficient proof of impairment.

Rice played receiver for four seasons at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas before being selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the second round of the 2023 draft.

KMBC news station has reached out to both the Kansas City Chiefs and the NFL for further information, but they have not yet responded to requests for comment. KMBC has also attempted to contact Rice's attorney, Royce West, who is also a Texas state senator and has previously represented Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
