In an exciting announcement, Justin Pippen, the youngest son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen, has revealed that he will be playing college basketball next season at the University of Michigan. Standing at 6-foot-4, Pippen is a senior point guard from Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth, California, and has rapidly gained attention as one of the top rising stars in his senior class.
Following an impressive season as the leading scorer for Sierra Canyon, Pippen garnered interest from a number of Division I programs across the country. Ultimately, Pippen chose Michigan over other reputable institutions such as Cal, Florida, Texas A&M, and Stanford. Expressing his enthusiasm, Pippen told Yahoo Sports, "I'm really excited to be heading to Michigan. It's a great program, and all the new coaching staff is on the same page and telling me I can come in right away and make an impact."
During his college recruitment journey, Pippen visited UC Santa Barbara and Texas A&M before recently completing a visit to Michigan last weekend. Recounting his experience, Pippen remarked, "It was a great visit, just being able to see the campus and meet with the coaches. They just told me to keep working and love the way I see the court, and we're going to come in and make a statement next year in the Big Ten."
Pippen's dedication to the game shone through last summer when he opted not to join any major AAU team or circuit. Instead, he spent countless hours in the gym training with his older brother, Scotty, who played collegiate basketball at Vanderbilt. The Pippen brothers were also joined by notable names such as Kenyon Martin Jr., Devin Booker, Jalen Green, and Kevin Durant, further fueling Justin's work ethic.
Reflecting on the impact of his brother and other professional players, Pippen shared, "I feel like my brother has increased my work ethic, for sure. Just being in the gym with him and other pros this summer, and my dad as well. He's just telling me to wake up every single day and put the work in."
Pippen's high school career concluded at Sierra Canyon, where he excelled alongside talented teammates such as four-star guard Isaiah Elohim, Bronny James, and Amari Bailey. Pippen attributes his growth as a player to learning from the strengths of his teammates, particularly in honing his defensive skills given James and Bailey's expertise with the ball.
Michigan's new head coach, Dusty May, is celebrating his first significant recruiting win with Pippen's commitment. May has also made significant strides in finalizing his coaching staff, welcoming six new assistant coaches.
As Justin Pippen prepares to embark on his collegiate basketball journey at Michigan, he undoubtedly carries on the Pippen family's esteemed basketball legacy. With his ability to handle the ball and shoot the three off the dribble, skills he has learned from some of the game's greatest players, Pippen is poised to make a significant impact as a freshman next season. Basketball enthusiasts eagerly anticipate witnessing the rise of this talented young athlete on the Wolverine's court.
