In a landmark decision on March 14, 2024, Justice James Mellor concluded that Craig Wright, an Australian computer scientist, is not the elusive Bitcoin creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. The ruling came after careful consideration of all the evidence and submissions presented during the COPA v Wright trial, which have led to overwhelming conclusions regarding Wright's involvement in the invention of Bitcoin.

During the trial, the U.K. Judicial Office shared a portion of the transcript, in which Justice Mellor expressed gratitude for the written and oral arguments made by all parties involved. It was acknowledged that the case necessitates a comprehensive written judgment, which will be released at a later date. In the meantime, Justice Mellor addressed those inquiring about the judgment's readiness, stating that it will be available "when it's ready and not before."

Based on the evidence and submissions presented, several crucial declarations were made by Justice Mellor. Firstly, it was declared that Dr. Wright is not the author of the Bitcoin White Paper. Secondly, he was deemed not to be the individual who operated under the pseudonym "Satoshi Nakamoto" during the period of 2008 to 2011. Additionally, Justice Mellor concluded that Dr. Wright is not the person responsible for creating the Bitcoin System or the author of the initial versions of the Bitcoin software. The judge emphasized that further relief will be discussed in the forthcoming written judgment.

Justice Mellor also addressed the timeline for filing any appellant's notice, extending the deadline until 21 days following the form of order hearing scheduled after the release of the written judgment. The judge encouraged the parties involved to collaborate and agree upon an order that incorporates the declarations made during the trial.

The ruling comes as a significant development in the ongoing search for the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin. Craig Wright has long been a controversial figure, claiming to be Nakamoto and facing scrutiny from the cryptocurrency community. However, with this ruling, the court has now officially determined that he is not the person behind the creation and development of Bitcoin.

As the verdict of this high-profile trial concludes, the cryptocurrency world waits with anticipation for the detailed written judgment which will shed further light on the evidence and reasoning behind Justice Mellor's decision.
