**Javier Bardem to Star in Apple TV+ Adaptation of "Cape Fear"**

Apple TV+ has officially ordered a series adaptation of "Cape Fear," with Academy Award-winning actor Javier Bardem lined up to play one of the leading roles. The development of the series, initially reported in 2023, did not specify a platform or cast at the time. The network has now commissioned ten episodes for the series.

The series will be helmed by Nick Antosca, who will serve as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Antosca, known for his work on other projects, will produce under his Eat the Cat production company, with Alex Hedlund also on board as an executive producer. The production boasts heavyweights such as Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese as executive producers—two iconic figures who notably contributed to the legacy of "Cape Fear" through their involvement in the acclaimed 1991 film remake.

The new series is rooted in the legacy of both John D. MacDonald's novel "The Executioners" and its previous adaptations. The original 1962 film starred Gregory Peck and served as the inspiration for Scorsese’s 1991 remake featuring Robert De Niro and Nick Nolte. Scorsese and Spielberg's involvement sees a continuity with the historic adaptations, adding a historic and respected lineage to the project.

Javier Bardem, aside from starring, will also be serving as an executive producer for the new series. Notably, Spielberg, along with Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, will be executive producing for Amblin Television. Production will be handled by UCP, benefiting from Antosca's current overall deal at the studio. Amblin and Apple TV+ have collaborated before on projects such as the World War II series "Masters of the Air" and the anthology series "Amazing Stories." In addition, Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon" was released by Apple in 2023.

This project marks another significant collaboration between Bardem and Apple. The versatile actor is also set to star in Apple's upcoming film "F1," which is expected to premiere in June 2025. Bardem’s diverse portfolio includes an Oscar-winning performance in "No Country for Old Men" and notable roles in "Before Night Falls," "Biutiful," and "Becoming the Ricardos." Recently, he has appeared in the "Dune" films and played a key role in Season 2 of Netflix's "Monsters."

With the addition of seasoned talents both in front of and behind the camera, Apple's "Cape Fear" series promises to be a highly anticipated project that blends classic influences with a contemporary touch.
