In a recent development, the Israel Defense Forces carried out an airstrike targeting a car in southern Lebanon, resulting in the death of a senior Hezbollah commander, Hassan Hussein Salami, who was a part of the terror group's Nasser unit. The strike marks the deepest Israeli attack into Lebanon since the recent surge in hostilities with Hezbollah. The targeted attack is said to be in response to numerous attacks carried out against Israel along the northern border, including recent missile attacks on military bases.
Following the airstrike that killed Salami, Israeli warplanes also killed at least two other Hezbollah members in the Bekaa Valley. In retaliation, Hezbollah launched 60 Katyusha rockets towards Israel's army headquarters in the Golan Heights, intensifying the conflict. The cycle of violence has raised concerns about the potential escalation of the conflict, spreading further instability in the region.
Since October 7, Israel has conducted airstrikes in Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of around 200 Hezbollah fighters and approximately 50 civilians. In response, Hezbollah missile attacks into Israel have claimed the lives of 12 IDF soldiers and five civilians. The Israeli military has expressed its commitment to defending against the Hezbollah terrorist organization and will continue to operate to safeguard the State of Israel from threats posed by the group.
