**iPhone 16 Charging Speeds Fall Short of Rumored 45W, Tests Reveal**

Recent tests have cast doubt on the claims that all iPhone 16 models are capable of charging at 45W speeds. Despite Chinese regulatory filings suggesting this capability, practical tests tell a different story.

ChargerLAB recently evaluated the iPhone 16 Pro Max using various Apple and third-party chargers. The results showed that while the iPhone 16 Pro Max could reach a maximum sustained charging speed of about 30W, it occasionally peaked at 37W when used with Apple's 140W USB-C power adapter. However, it's unclear how long the device maintained this peak speed.

Comparatively, these speeds are an improvement over the iPhone 15 Pro models, which had a reported peak charging speed of 27W. Therefore, while the iPhone 16 models do exhibit faster charging speeds, they do not reach the 45W ceiling that was anticipated.

PhoneArena reported similar findings for the standard iPhone 16. During their review, the device peaked at 38W, but only under heavy usage such as benchmark testing or gaming. The sustained charging speed for the standard model hovered closer to 20W.

Apple's official claims remain consistent, stating that all iPhone 16 models can reach a 50% charge in approximately 30 minutes with a 20W or higher USB-C charger—a claim identical to that for the iPhone 15 lineup.

Although all iPhone 16 models support the USB-C Power Delivery 3.0 protocol capable of 45W, the devices do not actually charge at these speeds in real-world scenarios. The rumors seem to have misinterpreted the official specifications. Nevertheless, users will still experience modestly improved charging speeds in specific conditions.
