Iowa Hawkeyes basketball sensation Caitlin Clark has garnered significant attention not only from the WNBA but also from the Big3, a 3-on-3 professional basketball league founded by Ice Cube. Clark, widely projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming WNBA draft, has been offered a chance to join the Big3 and make history in women's basketball.
While financial terms of the offer have not been disclosed by the Big3, Ice Cube took to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to share a TMZ report that states the offer for Clark is an astounding $5 million. Ice Cube, a renowned Generation X rapper, hip hop icon, and actor, confirmed the offer and expressed his confidence in Clark's abilities to achieve tremendous success in the Big3.
In a statement provided to CNN, Ice Cube acknowledged that the intended offer was initially meant to remain private until the culmination of Clark's championship run. However, considering the information now already circulating, he highlighted Clark's status as a generational athlete and her potential to break down barriers for women athletes in the league.
The Big3 revealed that the offer presented to Clark includes participation in up to 10 games, comprising eight regular-season games and two playoff games, contingent upon the qualification of the team she potentially joins. Additionally, Clark would receive clearance to simultaneously play in the WNBA, although clarification is being sought from the league regarding her dual participation.
As Clark prepares for her final collegiate games at Iowa, her performances continue to captivate a wide audience. ESPN recently announced that the Hawkeyes' second-round NCAA tournament victory over West Virginia drew a staggering 4.9 million viewers, with a peak audience of 6.4 million. According to ESPN, this game has become the most-viewed early-round game in history, underscoring Clark's immense popularity and the excitement she brings to the court.
While Clark's representation is yet to comment on the Big3 offer, the basketball world eagerly awaits her decision. The regular season for the WNBA is scheduled to commence in May, followed by playoffs in late September, while the Big3 season is scheduled to run from mid-June to mid-August. As fans anticipate the next chapter for Caitlin Clark, the possibility of witnessing her exceptional talents on two prominent basketball stages adds further anticipation to this already promising prospect.
