In a commanding performance on Saturday afternoon, the Iowa Hawkeyes showcased their prowess and emerged victorious with an impressive 89-68 win over Colorado in the Sweet 16 of the 2024 NCAA Women's Tournament. This triumph now sets the stage for a thrilling showdown in the Elite Eight as they gear up for a rematch against LSU, last year's national championship game opponent. The highly-anticipated clash is scheduled for Monday night in Albany, New York.

Right from the start, the Hawkeyes asserted their dominance on the court. Aaronette Vonleh managed to give Colorado an early 1-0 lead with a free throw, but Caitlin Clark quickly answered back with a layup, ensuring that Iowa never trailed again. The momentum continued to swing in their favor as Clark's layup in the second quarter propelled the Hawkeyes to a comfortable double-digit lead that they maintained for the remainder of the game.

Clark delivered a standout performance that left spectators in awe, showcasing her immense talent and solidifying her reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the tournament. She concluded the game with an astounding 29 points, six rebounds, and 15 assists—a career-high for tournament play. Her remarkable performance adds to her already remarkable record of having five games since 2000 with at least 25 points and 10 assists.

Furthermore, Clark extended her streak of scoring 20 points or more to an impressive 46 games. She also achieved her 65th career game with at least 25 points, five rebounds, and five assists, tying the legendary Diana Taurasi for the most 3-pointers in NCAA Tournament history with 61. Despite her incredible display, Clark narrowly missed out on recording another triple-double during the game against Colorado.

While Clark shone brightly, she was also supported by her teammates, with all four other starters contributing double-digit scores. As a team, the Hawkeyes displayed exceptional shooting, converting 53.8% of their field goals and an impressive 40.9% from beyond the arc.

This marks the sixth time in program history that the Iowa Hawkeyes have advanced to the Elite Eight, with the notable achievement of reaching this stage consecutively for the second season. The stage is now set for their highly-anticipated rematch against LSU, where the Hawkeyes will seek to avenge last year's national championship game defeat and secure their place in the Final Four.
