**Finnish and Swedish Authorities Investigate Undersea Cable Damage**

Authorities in Finland have commenced an inquiry into a damaged data cable beneath the Baltic Sea, joining an existing Swedish investigation into potential sabotage of that and another undersea link. The C-Lion1 cable, stretching between Finland and Germany, suffered damage on Monday. This event followed a similar incident affecting a cable between Lithuania and Sweden, which was damaged on Sunday near the Swedish islands of Oland and Gotland.

Finnish law enforcement, specifically the National Bureau of Investigation, has launched a criminal probe centered on suspicions of "aggravated criminal mischief and aggravated interference with communications." Meanwhile, their Swedish counterparts had already begun a preliminary examination on Tuesday, viewing the two ruptures as potential sabotage.

Swedish authorities have expressed particular interest in a ship observed at both cable breach locations. This development follows news reports citing that the Chinese-flagged vessel, Yi Peng 3, was present in the vicinity during the times the incidents occurred.

Germany's defense minister has suggested the damage appears to be deliberate, though definitive proof has yet to be established. As the investigations continue, questions linger over the circumstances surrounding the damage to these critical undersea communication links.
