### Buncombe County Launches Online Tool for Hurricane Helene Response

Officials in Buncombe County have introduced a pioneering online tool to enhance their response to Hurricane Helene. On Saturday, the county unveiled a platform that allows residents to upload geotagged photos and report various storm-related issues, including blocked roads, landslides, and the need for evacuation supplies.

The geotagging feature embedded in the photos is designed to aid emergency crews in pinpointing exact locations that require immediate attention. Residents are instructed to first take a photo and then upload it to the website so that emergency personnel can access the geolocation data and respond accordingly. It's important to note that using the "Take Photo or Video" option alone will not provide location details; the photo must be uploaded to transmit this information.

As of Saturday morning, power outages remain widespread, with 74,293 people still without electricity. To support the community, food and distribution centers are operational until 7 p.m. Residents facing water shortages are advised to place a filled 2-liter bottle in the back of toilets to save water. They are also cautioned against using water from streams or rivers, which have likely been contaminated by the storm.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials reaffirmed that public safety is their utmost priority. Search-and-rescue operations are ongoing, and FEMA has disbursed over $27 million statewide to date. Specifically in Buncombe County, 14,000 disaster assistance applications have been approved, resulting in more than $12 million being allocated to those affected for immediate needs and displacement assistance.

Residents are strongly encouraged to register for disaster assistance to receive necessary support. This innovative tool and other resources are critical components of the efforts to manage the aftermath of Hurricane Helene and assist in the community's recovery.
