One person has been detained after allegedly taking hostages at a bar in the central Dutch town of Ede, according to local authorities. The incident unfolded at the Petticoat cafe, a local bar and nightclub, and prompted the evacuation of approximately 150 homes in the surrounding area, as reported by Dutch daily De Telegraaf.
Local police have stated that the motive behind the assailant's actions remains unclear, but there is no indication of terrorism involved. The hostages, believed to be employees cleaning the bar, were gradually released over the course of the incident. Three hostages were released earlier in the morning, while the final hostage was let go later in the day.

Authorities will now focus on investigating the suspect's motive and mental state.
Images from the scene showed a significant police presence, including heavily armed officers, who were deployed to the area. A negotiator was also reported to have been present. The incident has caused disruption in the community and raised concerns among residents.
The local authorities are now expected to continue their investigation, taking into account the suspect's criminal history and conduct leading up to the hostage situation. Officials are working to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected individuals.
