In an exciting announcement earlier today, it was revealed that renowned hip-hop artist Snoop Dogg will have the honor of carrying the Olympic flame on its last leg through the streets of Saint-Denis in Paris. The town's mayor, Mathieu Hanotin, took to social media to share the news, stating that Saint-Denis would be the final stop before reaching the iconic Eiffel Tower.
The Olympic torch, which was initially lit in April at the ancient Olympia site, arrived in the French port of Marseille on May 8 and has since traveled through various regions of the country. The tradition of carrying the torch symbolizes "peace and friendship among nations since antiquity," according to the International Olympic Committee.
Snoop Dogg's participation in the torch relay marks the 67th leg of its journey. He will be joined by French actress Laetitia Casta and French rapper MC Solaar, among other notable figures. The Olympic flame will make its way to the Seine River, where it will be present during the opening ceremony scheduled for 1:30 ET on Friday.
While Snoop Dogg's involvement in the Olympics doesn't end with carrying the torch, as he will also serve as a special NBC Olympics correspondent for the Games, the identity of the final torchbearer, who will light the Olympic cauldron during the opening ceremony, is yet to be revealed.
The inclusion of Snoop Dogg, an iconic figure in the hip-hop industry, adds a touch of excitement and cultural significance to the Paris Olympics 2024. As the torch continues its journey towards the Eiffel Tower, anticipation builds for the grandeur and spectacle that awaits at the opening ceremony.
