Former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton voiced concerns over the potential withdrawal of the United States from NATO if former President Trump secures re-election this November. Clinton's remarks were made at the Munich Security Conference in Germany, where she urged U.S. allies to take Trump's warnings seriously. She emphasized Trump's intentions to pull the U.S. out of NATO and become an authoritarian leader if given the chance, despite congressional resolutions in place.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg expressed confidence that the U.S. would remain a strong ally regardless of the election outcome. Trump's recent criticisms of NATO's funding structure have led to increased efforts from member countries to meet their financial obligations. Stoltenberg noted that 18 out of NATO's 31 members are on track to fulfill their pledge of contributing 2% of GDP to the alliance, with European states set to contribute $380 billion this year. Additionally, Germany is projected to meet its 2% spending commitment for the first time since the Cold War, signaling a significant improvement compared to previous years.
