According to a post on social media, the fire department revealed that they usually receive an average of 300 calls in a day. However, from 9 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, they were bombarded with 90 calls, with approximately 15 to 20 of those being water rescues. Many individuals found themselves trapped in their cars due to the extreme flooding, necessitating swift action from the fire department.
Pictures circulating on X (formerly known as Twitter) showcased the mayhem caused by the heavy rain and subsequent floods, with many roads transformed into treacherous waterways. The Denver Fire Department issued a warning advising residents to "turn around... Don't drown!" as the rain made a mess of the city's roadways.
Multiple areas in and around Denver, including Arvada, reported flash floods to the National Weather Service (NWS). Stranded vehicles submerged in the water became a common sight, adding to the chaos and danger brought about by the torrential downpour.
The NWS measured a total of 0.47 inches of rainfall at the Denver International Airport on Saturday, surpassing the entire rainfall for the month of June, which was recorded at 0.36 inches.
