In a surprising move, beloved actor Harrison Ford has entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with his role as President Thaddeus Ross in the upcoming film "Captain America: Brave New World." Ford shared in an interview with Variety that his decision to take on the iconic character was driven by one motivator: money. He confessed that he had to disconnect from being overly concerned about his performance in order to fully embody the character of Ross.
Replacing the late William Hurt, who portrayed Ross in previous MCU films such as "The Incredible Hulk" (2008) and "Black Widow" (2021), Ford seemed unfazed by the challenge of stepping into such established shoes. When questioned about the process of turning into the Red Hulk through motion capture technology, Ford humorously admitted, "What did it take? It took not caring. It took being an idiot for money, which I've done before." Despite his lighthearted words, he expressed enjoyment and satisfaction with the experience, as well as being pleased with the positive response garnered from the film's trailer.
Ford's involvement in the motion capture performance of Red Hulk will see him alongside Anthony Mackie, who reprises his role as Captain America in this film following the events of Disney+ series "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier." Mackie, speaking to Inverse in 2023, praised Ford's presence on set, saying, "He's Harrison fucking Ford. There is this aura about him. But he dispels that really quickly because he's such a cool guy. He's everything a movie star should be. He would say, 'Let's shoot this piece of shit.' And everybody was like, 'Yeah, let's shoot this shit.'"
Directed by Julius Onah and produced by Kevin Feige and Nate Moore, "Captain America: Brave New World," initially titled "Captain America: New World Order," is shaping up to be a highly anticipated film in the MCU. The script, co-written by "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" creator Malcolm Spellman and series staff writer Dalan Musson, promises a thrilling continuation of the Captain America storyline. Originally slated for a May 3, 2023 release as the fourth film in Phase 5, fans are eagerly awaiting this exciting addition to the Marvel universe.
