The Green Bay Packers recently received the news that they will be heading to Brazil for their 2024 season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, amidst the excitement, the team is facing a logistical challenge in getting to South America.

The primary concern for the Packers is the lack of direct flights from Green Bay to Brazil. The team will either have to schedule a layover somewhere or travel to Milwaukee, which is a two-hour bus ride away, to catch a flight from there. This issue was raised by Packers president Mark Murphy during an interview at the NFL's annual league meeting on March 26.

The small size of Green Bay's airport and runway limits the capability of accommodating larger planes needed for the 5,400-mile journey to São Paulo. In comparison, when the Packers flew to London in 2022, they were able to take off from Green Bay for the 3,830-mile flight. The team is now in the process of figuring out the most efficient and convenient way to make their trip to South America.

The potential travel time for the Packers could reach nearly 13 hours, including the two-hour bus ride to Milwaukee and the 10.5-hour flight. In contrast, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Packers' opponents for the game, will have the advantage of a shorter flight from Philadelphia, taking about 9.5 hours.

While facing these travel challenges, the Packers are aware that the Eagles will not sympathize with their situation. Philadelphia is willingly sacrificing a home game to play in Brazil, so any inconvenience faced by the Packers adds an extra home-field advantage for the Eagles.

Despite the travel concerns, Murphy expressed his enthusiasm for the historic matchup against the Eagles in São Paulo. He stated that the Packers are excited to play in front of their devoted fans in Brazil and contribute to the international popularity of the NFL and their team.

The NFL's first-ever regular-season game in Brazil is scheduled to kick off on Friday, September 6. This highly anticipated game will be exclusively streamed on Peacock and marks the NFL's return to Friday games in Week 1 since 1970.

As the Packers continue to strategize their travel plans, anticipation is building for this unique international showdown that will showcase the global growth of the NFL and create a memorable experience for fans in Brazil and around the world.
