**Georgia Tech Stuns Undefeated Miami in Homecoming Victory**
In an unexpected turn of events, Georgia Tech's Yellow Jackets claimed a dramatic 28-23 victory over the fourth-ranked Miami Hurricanes during their annual homecoming game. Despite entering the match as significant underdogs, Georgia Tech's resilient performance made for a thrilling celebration at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
Quarterbacks Haynes King and Aaron Philo managed to accumulate only 99 passing yards collectively. However, it was the Yellow Jackets' robust running game that ultimately secured the win. King was instrumental on the ground, rushing for 93 yards and a touchdown, in addition to throwing for another score.
The win over Miami, who traveled to Atlanta with a perfect 9-0 record, was particularly poignant as it marked Georgia Tech's first victory over a top-five ranked team in 15 years. Fans and students exuberantly stormed the field post-game, bringing down both field goal posts in jubilation.
Miami's Heisman Trophy candidate, Cam Ward, threw for an impressive 347 yards and three touchdowns. His remarkable 74-yard touchdown pass to Elijah Arroyo not only set a school record but was also his 30th touchdown pass of the season, surpassing Steve Walsh's 1988 record.
Nevertheless, Miami's efforts fell short. Their only lead in the game was 10-7, with Georgia Tech taking control after moving ahead 14-10 in the second quarter. Despite Miami’s previous success with second-half comebacks, the Hurricanes couldn't overcome the Yellow Jackets’ tenacity.
This defeat dealt a blow to Miami's aspirations, becoming their first loss of the season and likely impacting their standings in the upcoming AP Top 25 and College Football Playoff rankings. The loss also dethroned them from their first-place tie atop the ACC standings with SMU.
While Georgia Tech relishes the boost from this landmark win, both teams will have a bye week before their next games. Miami will host Wake Forest in South Florida, and Georgia Tech will face North Carolina State on Thursday, Nov. 21.
