In a recent interview with ET, acclaimed actress Geena Davis shared insights into her experience filming the iconic movie Thelma & Louise. Sitting down for her rETrospective from the Bentonville Film Festival, the 68-year-old actress reflected on her co-stars, Susan Sarandon and Brad Pitt, and shed light on her role in launching Pitt's career.

Davis revealed the behind-the-scenes details of the casting process, disclosing that Pitt was in fierce competition with three other talented actors, including Mark Ruffalo, George Clooney, and Grant Show. Ultimately, Davis had the deciding vote and unintentionally selected Pitt for the role of J.D., the charming bad boy who propels Thelma and Louise into a crime spree.

Describing Pitt as "charismatic" and oozing with talent, Davis confessed that she was initially distracted by his presence during their chemistry read. Despite her slight deviation from her own lines, she acknowledged that Pitt deservedly earned the role. Davis even apologized to Pitt for potentially messing up his audition, to which he kindly reassured her with a casual "It's all good."

While Pitt's casting was a career-changing moment for him, he was not the only actor who captivated Davis on set. Davis reminisced about her immediate connection with Sarandon, expressing her admiration and stating, "The second I laid eyes on her, she walked in the room and I like fell in love with her." Their bond continues to this day, with Davis describing Sarandon as one of her best friends and closest allies.

Davis also recounted a memorable encounter with Sarandon during script discussions, where Sarandon's boldness and empowerment inspired Davis to speak up for herself. Davis commended Sarandon's revolutionary approach and marveled at her ability to voice her thoughts without confrontation.

Thelma & Louise, directed by Ridley Scott, became a significant milestone in Davis' career. The film follows the journey of two best friends, played by Davis and Sarandon, as they embark on a liberating adventure filled with unexpected twists and turns. Thelma & Louise garnered critical acclaim and earned writer Callie Khouri an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1992. Davis and Sarandon were also nominated for Best Leading Actress, while Scott received a nomination for Best Director.

Looking back on the film's legacy, Davis considers Thelma & Louise as one of the most important projects of her illustrious career. It taught her valuable lessons on navigating the industry in a different, more empowered way.

As Davis continues to make an impact in Hollywood, she remains grateful for the friendships she formed on set and the opportunities that arose from her involvement in Thelma & Louise.
