Two players from the French national rugby team have been arrested in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Monday as part of an investigation into an alleged sexual assault, according to Martín Ahumada, spokesman for the Judiciary of Mendoza. The incident is said to have taken place in Mendoza, where the French team played a Test match against Argentina on Sunday.
The arrested players are Oscar Jegou and Hugo Auradou, both of whom have been accused of being involved in the alleged incident. After the match, the French team traveled to Buenos Aires, where Jegou and Auradou were apprehended by authorities.
Rafael Cúneo Libarona, a lawyer representing the players in Buenos Aires, stated that he has spoken to both Jegou and Auradou. He mentioned that the players are worried but maintain a clear conscience. Cúneo Libarona expressed his belief and trust in the players.
The French Embassy in Argentina is yet to provide a comment on the matter, while the French Rugby Federation, represented by Florian Grill, the president, expressed their lack of details regarding the incident. Grill acknowledged that if the allegations are substantiated, they are extremely serious.
Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, the French Minister for Sports, condemned the alleged acts and emphasized that if the investigation confirms the accusations, they would be considered an unspeakable atrocity.
Jegou currently plays for Stade Rochelais club, while Auradou is associated with Section Paloise. As of now, both clubs have refrained from commenting on the ongoing investigation, with Stade Rochelais citing a lack of direct information about the procedure, and Section Paloise stating their decision to wait for the results of the investigation before making any statements.
Jegou and Auradou are scheduled to travel to Mendoza on Wednesday, accompanied by their lawyer, as the investigation progresses. CNN continues to seek comments from all relevant parties involved in the case.
