French actor Gérard Depardieu is under scrutiny once again as a 53-year-old movie decorator has come forward with a complaint of sexual assault against him. The decorator alleges that Depardieu groped her during filming for "The Green Shutters" in 2021, lawyer Carine Durrieu Diebolt revealed. According to the complaint, Depardieu allegedly grabbed and touched her waist, stomach, and breasts, prompting others on set to intervene.

This accusation adds to a growing list of allegations against the 75-year-old actor, who has previously been accused by more than a dozen women of harassment, groping, or sexual assault. Depardieu faced preliminary rape and sexual assault charges in 2020 after allegations from actor Charlotte Arnould, which he denies.

The recent complaint comes in the wake of French actor Judith Godrèche's call for the film industry to address issues of sexual violence and abuse. During the live broadcast of the Cesar Awards ceremony, Godrèche accused two film directors of rape and sexual abuse during her teenage years, urging the industry to confront these realities.

Despite his denial of any wrongdoing, Depardieu's reputation has been tarnished by the numerous allegations made against him. While he was once hailed as a national icon in France and a global ambassador for French film, his legacy now faces critical examination. President Emmanuel Macron, who previously praised Depardieu, later clarified his support for victims of abuse, emphasizing the importance of speaking out against such misconduct.

As more voices within the French film industry speak out against sexual violence and harassment, calls for accountability and reflection are gaining momentum. French cultural minister Rachida Dati highlighted the need for the industry to address longstanding issues of overlooking such abuses. This latest accusation against Depardieu underscores the urgency for meaningful change and accountability within the French cinema.
