In a surprising turn of events, Foxtrot, the Chicago-based chain of trendy convenience stores/markets, is set to make a comeback after abruptly closing all of its locations on April 23. According to reports by Eater Chicago, Foxtrot's parent company, Outfox Hospitality, plans to reopen some of its stores, including ones in Austin.

The company's assets were put up for auction on May 10, and there were speculations that co-founder Mike LaVitola was working to revive Foxtrot. The winning bid was placed by a business called Further Point Enterprises, which is now collaborating with LaVitola. He will serve as the executive chairman of the reestablished entity, now known as Foxtrot 2.0, states Crain's.

LaVitola mentioned that the new Foxtrot is starting from scratch as a completely new company. However, it will retain the same name and original locations, maintaining the familiar layout and merchandising, with a focus on supporting local and small makers, as indicated in Foxtrot's press release.

While the press release only mentioned store reopenings in Chicago, Austin, and Dallas, it did not specify which specific locations would be reopening. Foxtrot previously operated four locations in Austin: Rosedale on Burnet, Bouldin Creek on South First, downtown on West Second Street, and West Campus on Guadalupe. It remains unclear which of these stores will be included in the revival.

Currently, some of the former Foxtrot locations in Austin bear signs of their closure. The South First Foxtrot has been covered in graffiti shortly after shutting down, while the downtown location remains dark, although its stock is still visible from the outside.

Foxtrot was originally founded in 2014 by LaVitola and co-founder Taylor Bloom. In November 2023, the company merged with Dom's Kitchen & Market from Chicago, forming the Outfox Hospitality Group.

As Foxtrot gears up to make its comeback, customers in Austin and other cities eagerly await the reopening of their favorite neighborhood convenience store.
