Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany has responded to a new poll that ranked former President Donald Trump as the worst president in US history. The survey conducted by the "Presidential Greatness Project" asked academics to rank all 45 US presidents, with Trump coming in last with a score of 10.9 out of 100, labeled as the "most polarizing" president.
McEnany expressed her frustration at the poll results, calling out the survey's 154 respondents as "ivory-tower elites." While acknowledging the ranking of Abraham Lincoln in first place as fair, she criticized the placement of Trump behind Democrats Barack Obama and Joe Biden, who ranked seventh and 14th, respectively.
Critics of Trump pointed out his refusal to concede, involvement in the January 6 Capitol attack, and impeachment as reasons for his low ranking. George Conway highlighted Trump as the only president in history to refuse the peaceful transfer of power and commit crimes to overturn the election, while former congressman Joe Walsh emphasized Trump's unprecedented actions that led to his designation as the worst president.
The poll awarded Abraham Lincoln the top spot, followed by Franklin D. Roosevelt, George Washington, Theodore Roosevelt, and Thomas Jefferson. Trump's ranking remained consistent with that of a previous 2018 survey, while Obama ascended nine places to seventh since 2015.
The survey results have sparked debate among political commentators and the public, reflecting the ongoing discussion surrounding the legacy of Donald Trump's presidency.
