Former University of Connecticut basketball stars Ryan Boatright and DeAndre Daniels, along with Joey Calcaterra, have committed to compete in The Basketball Tournament (TBT) this summer as part of the Stars of Storrs team. The tournament, now in its 11th year, features a $1 million winner-take-all prize and will be aired on FOX Sports.

Boatright and Daniels, who brought home the national title for UConn in 2014, will reunite as teammates in their quest for another championship. They will be joined by Calcaterra, a member of the Dan Hurley-led championship team in 2023.

Representing UConn in this tournament holds great significance for Boatright. He expressed his excitement, stating, "Putting on those colors again and playing for a common goal – winning another championship on a national stage with your brothers – means everything." Boatright also added, "Reuniting with DeAndre will be fun, and I'm super excited about it. We did some amazing things together on the court and are looking to continue that success this summer."

The Stars of Storrs team was organized by University of Connecticut alum Marc D'Amelio and the D'Amelio Huskies Collective. Since its founding in 2022, the collective has been providing support and opportunities to UConn student-athletes, including current players Donovan Clingan, Stephon Castle, and Hassan Diarra, in name, image, and likeness (NIL) ventures. If the Stars of Storrs win the TBT's $1 million prize, $100,000 will be donated to the Collective.

Marc D'Amelio, serving as the team's general manager, expressed his passion for UConn basketball and his excitement in assembling a UConn TBT team. Leading the team as head coach will be Chris Smith, UConn's all-time leading scorer and a member of the UConn Basketball All-Century Team. Smith, who played for the Huskies from 1988-1992 and holds the all-time scoring record with 2,145 points, is thrilled to coach a mix of Huskies from different generations.

The TBT tournament consists of a 64-team field, with eight regionals and eight teams in each region. The Pittsburgh Regional will host the Stars of Storrs, and if they advance, they will play in the quarterfinals on July 29. The semifinals and $1 million championship game will be held on August 2 and August 4 respectively, at Drexel University in Philadelphia.

Before the team sets off for Pittsburgh, there will be an open practice session in Connecticut for fans to attend. The specific date and time for the practice will be announced on the Stars of Storrs' social media platforms, @starsofstorrs.

With former UConn champions like Boatright, Daniels, and Calcaterra leading the way, UConn fans can look forward to an exciting TBT tournament as the Stars of Storrs aim to bring home another championship.
