Thousands gathered at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex on Saturday for the "Get Out the Vote Rally," where former President Donald Trump and several prominent North Carolina Republicans addressed supporters. Doors opened at 11 a.m., and Trump took the stage at around 2:14 p.m.
In his speech, Trump touched on a range of topics, including immigration, securing the border, and his ongoing legal battles surrounding the 2020 election. He claimed that the election was rigged and compared President Joe Biden's actions to those of the "10 worst Presidents" in American history. Trump referred to Biden as a "danger to democracy" and accused him of providing aid and comfort to foreign enemies of the United States.
During his endorsement spree, Trump highlighted the achievements of Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, praising him as an "outstanding lieutenant governor" and comparing him to Martin Luther King. Trump also endorsed Rep. Dan Bishop's campaign for attorney general and supported Addison McDowell's run for North Carolina's 6th District. Rep. Virginia Foxx and Rep. Lauren Boebert also earned praise from the former President.
Trump boasted about his efforts in dealing with ISIS and other foreign conflicts during his presidency while criticizing Biden's handling of issues such as inflation and gas prices. He promised to impose penalties on China and other "trade abusers" if elected again and emphasized his commitment to protecting the Second Amendment. Trump also called for the use of paper ballots and voter IDs in elections.
The former President expressed concern about the use of electric vehicles for military equipment, specifically tanks and aircraft. He repeatedly referred to those jailed as a result of the Capitol riots on January 6, 2020, as "hostages" and warned that a "great recession" would occur in the stock market if he does not win the 2024 election.
Outside the Greensboro Coliseum, video footage captured the enthusiasm of the gathered crowd as they eagerly awaited entry, waving flags and chanting in support of Trump. Notable attendees and speakers at the rally included North Carolina Sheriff's Association President Darren Campbell, Speaker of the North Carolina House Rep. Tim Moore, and Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson.
Trump's visit to Greensboro comes after his victorious South Carolina primary against Nikki Haley. With the rally serving as a platform for endorsing local candidates and rallying supporters, the former President left an indelible mark on the event as he and other prominent North Carolina Republicans delivered their speeches.
Overall, the rally showcased the continued influence and support that Donald Trump holds among his base in North Carolina, setting the stage for future political endeavors and campaigns in the state.
