The Trumps lodged a notice of appeal on Monday following Judge Arthur Engoron's official declaration of the judgment. Notably, Donald Trump faces a personal liability of $454 million, which includes interest payments.

The appeal focuses on challenging the money judgment and other penalties, such as bans on the Trumps serving as officers of New York corporations for a designated period. The appeal questions potential errors of law and fact, allegations of excessive discretion, and acts beyond jurisdiction by the court.

The Trumps' plan to cover the significant amount needed for the appeal remains ambiguous. Donald Trump, in particular, must arrange funds either through cash or bond to cover the $355 million principal amount and an approximate $100 million in ordered interest payments. Additionally, his sons were instructed to return over $4 million each due to improper gains related to the fraud.

The judgment by Judge Engoron was disclosed on the court docket last Friday, one week after holding Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Eric Trump accountable for fraud in the civil case led by New York Attorney General Letitia James. Despite Trump's plea to delay the judgment by 30 days, the judge dismissed the request citing the lack of justification or explanation. Trump's lawyers had argued for the postponement to ensure an orderly process considering the colossal nature of the decision.
