Former Post Office chairman, Henry Staunton, has claimed that his sacking was a direct result of seeking revenge, according to statements made to the Sunday Times. Staunton alleged that during his dismissal, Business Secretary Kemi Badenoch told him that "someone's got to take the rap" for the Post Office failings, a claim vehemently denied by Badenoch in Commons. Badenoch emphasized that the government handled Staunton's dismissal in a dignified manner but asserted she would defend herself against any accusations. She stressed that the priority of the Post Office currently is to manage the compensation claims of the numerous sub-postmasters who were wrongly convicted of fraud charges.
