A former college football player, Blaise A. Taylor, has been arrested in Utah and accused of murdering his pregnant girlfriend in Tennessee, according to officials. The arrest was made by the U.S. Marshals Service after a grand jury in Nashville indicted Taylor on two counts of murder.
The victim, Jade Benning, tragically passed away on March 6, her 25th birthday, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Benning had been hospitalized since February 25, when Taylor called 911 reporting that she was experiencing an allergic reaction. However, after an investigation by homicide detectives, it was determined that Taylor had allegedly poisoned Benning without her knowledge during a visit to her Lebanon Pike apartment that day.
In addition to the loss of Benning, her 5-month-old fetus, which Taylor is alleged to have fathered, also lost its life. The exact details surrounding the alleged poisoning were not revealed in the released statement from the police.
Following Benning's death, Taylor reportedly relocated to Utah. As of yet, it remains unclear if Taylor has obtained legal representation or if a defense attorney has been assigned to his case.
The arrest and indictment of Blaise A. Taylor mark a tragic turn of events for a former college football player who was once praised for his accomplishments both on the field and in the classroom.
