Ford has temporarily ceased shipments of the 2024 F-150 Lightning electric pickup due to an undisclosed quality issue that has caused hundreds, if not thousands, of Ford trucks to accumulate in holding lots around Detroit. The halt on the 2024 Lightning models occurred on February 9, with Ford spokesperson Emma Berg confirming that the stop-ship will be lifted once thorough launch quality checks are completed.

In contrast, gas-powered 2024 F-150 shipments have resumed after a backlog of trucks accumulated in Detroit lots. Although some trucks have been waiting in lots since December, Ford assures customers that shipments are still on track to meet the "early 2024" timeframe.

Acknowledging the delays and quality concerns, Ford CEO Jim Farley emphasized the brand's commitment to prioritizing quality, revealing that it now factors into 70% of the short-term incentives for Ford's management team. In response to the delays, Ford has introduced new incentives for the 2023 F-150 Lightning models, offering a $7,500 retail credit for select trims including the Lariat, XLT, and Pro.

As Ford works to address the quality issues affecting the 2024 F-150 Lightning models, commercial customers experiencing delays in their orders are hopeful that the situation will improve in the coming weeks once the thorough quality checks are completed, allowing them to receive their trucks in a timely manner.
