The twin-engine IAI Astra 1125 had departed from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and was bound for Hot Springs when it tragically went down on Sunday.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the plane crashed while approaching Hot Springs Airport at around 3 p.m. The cause of the crash is yet to be determined, but officials said there was an emergency on board, which prompted the pilot to attempt a landing at Ingalls Field Airport. However, upon impact, the aircraft burst into flames, leaving behind a small crash site that was completely burnt.
Virginia State Police confirmed in a statement that four adults, including the pilot, and a child lost their lives in the fiery crash. Local authorities and emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene to handle the situation. Unfortunately, it was revealed that the tail numbers of the plane were unidentifiable due to the extensive damage caused by the fire.
It was later announced that the passengers on board the ill-fated flight were traveling to attend an event at the Homestead Resort in Hot Springs. The victims' identities have yet to be officially confirmed as their remains were sent to the Virginia Office of the Medical Examiner, Western District for examination and identification.
Transportation officials have started investigating the crash and have been on-site assessing the wreckage. Plans are underway to remove what is left of the plane from the area for further examination.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks involved in air travel and emphasizes the importance of continuing efforts to ensure the safety of passengers. As the investigation progresses, authorities will work diligently to uncover the cause of the crash and take any necessary measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
