Fatal Crash Involving School Bus and Concrete Truck Leaves Two Dead in Bastrop County

In a tragic incident, a school bus belonging to Hays Consolidated Independent School District collided with a concrete truck near Mustang Ridge in Bastrop County, Texas, resulting in at least two fatalities. According to officials from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred on Friday afternoon.

The bus was carrying preschool students from Tom Green Elementary who had just returned from a field trip to the Bastrop Zoo. A total of 44 students and 11 adults were on board the bus at the time of the accident. The Hays CISD issued a news release stating that parents of the students were promptly informed by the school.

Tragically, two individuals lost their lives as a result of the collision. The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that the crash took place near SH 21 and Caldwell Road, as reported by Austin-Travis County EMS on their social media channels. The Caldwell County Sheriff's Office also took to social media to announce road closures on SH 21 due to the accident, which claimed "multiple" lives.

Emergency services rapidly responded to the scene of the crash, with two Travis County STARflight helicopters arriving to transport four patients. Additionally, two patients were taken to St. David's South Austin Medical Center by ATCEMS. Other agencies also provided transportation for the victims.

As first responders continue their work at the accident site, drivers are advised to expect road closures in the surrounding area. The exact cause of the collision is yet to be determined, and investigations into the incident are underway.
