Two people were killed and one person was injured in a tragic accident at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) parking lot early Saturday morning. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. at the Nash Street exit on the westbound span of the 105 Freeway, according to the updated information released by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
The crash occurred when two vehicles, a Lexus and a Ford Mustang, flew off the exit ramp and landed on their roofs, causing severe damage to both cars. The impact was so intense that one of the vehicles caught fire, as captured in video footage from the scene. The parking lot where the cars landed is used by FedEx Air Freight employees.
LAPD confirmed that two individuals, who were in the same vehicle, were pronounced dead at the scene, while the third victim was injured. The identities of the deceased and the injured person have not been disclosed at this time.
While the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, initial reports from the scene suggest that speed may have played a role due to the sharp curve on the off-ramp. However, it is yet to be determined if speed was a contributing factor.
Both the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and LAX police are currently handling the investigation. Details regarding the extent of the injured person's injuries and their current condition have not been provided.
The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to speed limits and practicing caution while driving on freeway off-ramps. As authorities continue their investigation, more information is expected to be released.
