In a move to address the growing issue of electronic waste, tech brand Fairphone has unveiled their latest offering, the Fairbuds earbuds. Building on their reputation as an ethical smartphone company, Fairphone has developed wireless earbuds that prioritize repairability and user-replaceable parts.
Unlike many Bluetooth earbuds on the market, the Fairbuds have been designed with longevity in mind. The inclusion of user-replaceable batteries ensures that these earbuds won't end up in landfills like their unrepairable counterparts. This commitment to sustainability aligns with Fairphone's core values of promoting ethical and environmentally conscious technology.
Notably, the Fairbuds are not the first repairable audio product from Fairphone. The company had previously released the Fairbuds XL, over-ear headphones with a similar repair-friendly design. With the launch of the Fairbuds, Fairphone has expanded its sustainable audio offerings to include true wireless earbuds.
The Fairbuds feature several repairable parts, including the silicone ring, the charging case outer shell, and the charging case core. This allows users to extend the lifespan of their earbuds and minimize electronic waste. Additionally, Fairphone offers a standard two-year warranty for the Fairbuds, with an additional free year if the product is registered online.
The earbuds boast advanced features such as Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and an IP54 water and dust resistance rating. Users can also customize their audio experience using the dedicated 8-band equalizer accessible via the Fairphone smartphone application.
Each earbud is rated for five hours of continuous use with ANC active, or five hours without ANC. The charging case provides an additional 20 hours of battery life, resulting in a total of 26 hours of usage. Charging the case fully via USB-C takes approximately two hours, with a quick charge option that provides 1.5 hours of music playback in just 10 minutes. However, wireless charging is not supported.
Furthermore, the Fairbuds offer dual point connectivity, allowing users to connect to multiple devices simultaneously. The earbuds also incorporate titanium-coated 11mm premium drivers, promising enhanced audio quality.
The Fairbuds are currently available only in the UK and Europe, in a choice of black or white colors. Priced at €149 or £129, these repairable and ethical wireless earbuds provide consumers with a sustainable alternative in the crowded audio market.
With the Fairbuds, Fairphone continues its commitment to technology that not only serves its users but also the planet. By providing a repairable and eco-friendly audio solution, Fairphone aims to inspire other tech brands to prioritize sustainability and reduce electronic waste.
