### Greg Peterson’s MLB Postseason Picks for Monday, Oct 7: Tigers vs. Guardians

Renowned MLB analyst Greg Peterson has laid out his predictions for the postseason as the Detroit Tigers aim to level their American League Divisional Series against the Cleveland Guardians on Monday. Tensions run high as the Tigers entrust ace pitcher Tarik Skubal to secure a crucial win on the road.

Skubal, on track to win the American League Cy Young Award unless something unforeseen happens, boasts an impressive record. He finished the regular season with an 18-4 record, a 2.39 ERA, and an exceptional 10.6 strikeouts to 1.6 walks per nine innings. Strengthening the Tigers' position is their formidable bullpen, which led the American League with a 2.71 ERA from August 1 until the end of the regular season.

On the opposing side, the Cleveland Guardians' bullpen has been equally robust, owning a 2.52 ERA from the regular season through the postseason—the best in the league. However, Guardians' starting pitcher, Matthew Boyd, presents a bit of an unknown. Despite a commendable 2.72 ERA with 10.4 strikeouts per nine innings, Boyd’s performance is based on a limited sample of eight starts and 39 2/3 innings.

Offensively, the Tigers have shown a marked improvement since mid-August. Though they ranked 20th in the league with 4.2 runs per game during the regular season, their scoring surged to over 4.4 runs per game from August 13 onward, ranking them fourth in the American League during that span. Meanwhile, the Guardians have maintained a solid offensive presence at home, averaging 4.7 runs per game, which ranks 10th in the league.

Given the strong pitching on both sides and the offensive capabilities, Peterson finds the total of six runs for this matchup to be set too low. He predicts that the combined score will surpass this figure, making it an enticing MLB pick.
