Despite doubts surrounding his future following a disappointing Premier League campaign, United's victory in the FA Cup against rivals Manchester City has played a crucial role in the Dutchman's continuation.

The team's new co-owners, INEOS, led by Sir Dave Brailsford, conducted the thorough review, which reportedly led to a "clear conclusion" that Ten Hag should remain at the helm of the club. Discussions are now set to take place between Ten Hag and United regarding a potential extension to his current contract, which was initially scheduled to expire in 2025.

During his first season with United, Ten Hag achieved a commendable third-place finish in the Premier League and secured victory in the Carabao Cup. However, his second season proved difficult, with United finishing eighth in the league, their worst position in the history of the Premier League. The team's Champions League campaign was equally disappointing, as they failed to progress beyond the group stage, ultimately exiting Europe before Christmas.

The unsatisfactory results prompted the club to consider potential replacements for Ten Hag, including the likes of Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Roberto De Zerbi, Thomas Frank, Kieran McKenna, and Graham Potter. There was also reported interest in England boss Gareth Southgate.

Despite facing intense scrutiny regarding his future following the FA Cup final victory at Wembley, Ten Hag staunchly defended himself, attributing the team's poor results to injuries. He boldly stated, "If they don't want me, then I go somewhere else to win trophies because that is what I do."

While on holiday in Ibiza following the FA Cup triumph over Manchester City, Ten Hag received confirmation that he will retain his position as manager. He is expected to return to Carrington for the commencement of preseason training in July. Manchester United's summer schedule will kick off with a match against Rosenborg in Norway on July 15.
