In a recent interview with Fox News, Eric Trump expressed disbelief at the requirement for his father, Donald Trump, to put up a bond valued at $454 million, claiming that such bonds do not exist in the country. As the court-imposed deadline approaches, the Trump Organization and the former president's family are under pressure to come up with the substantial amount.
Eric Trump, the 40-year-old executive vice-president of the Trump Organization, revealed that bond issuers had simply laughed at the idea of providing such a large bond when approached. "No one's ever seen a bond this size," he stated, emphasizing how even top executives at major insurance companies were baffled by the magnitude of the request. Eric Trump compared a $10 million bond as large and a $15 million bond as enormous, highlighting the incredulity of a half-billion-dollar bond.
These statements come after Donald Trump claimed to have nearly $500 million in cash, suggesting that he could afford the bond in the New York case. However, Trump's lawyers previously stated that obtaining a surety to protect his assets from seizure during the appeal process was "impossible."
The New York attorney general, Letitia James, could potentially begin seizing Trump's assets as early as Tuesday morning, including bank accounts and properties. Eric Trump himself was fined close to $4 million by Judge Arthur Engoron in the same case and spoke out against what he believed to be an unfair outcome. "They're trying to put my father out of business or trying to take all his resources that you'd otherwise put into his own campaign for presidency," he argued, while confidently asserting that his father would ultimately be successful.
Some business executives, including Shark Tank host Kevin O'Leary, have also voiced concerns about the massive judgment and the 30-day deadline to meet it. O'Leary questioned the urgency, emphasizing the importance of property rights and due process.
Meanwhile, progressive Democratic congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez shared her belief that treating all individuals equally under the law was crucial. She expressed concern over the risks of not seizing Trump's assets and the potential for political corruption in his quest to secure the necessary funds through alternative means.
Donald Trump is currently facing over 80 pending criminal charges related to his attempts to overturn the 2020 election result, retaining classified materials after his presidency, and hush-money payments. Additionally, he has been handed multimillion-dollar penalties after losing a lawsuit centered around a rape allegation.
As the deadline looms and legal battles escalate, the Trump Organization finds itself confronting significant financial challenges while navigating the political and legal landscape.
