Emma Roberts Opens Up About the Challenges of Having Famous Family Members in Hollywood
In a recent interview with Flaunt, actress Emma Roberts candidly discussed the ups and downs of her Hollywood career, particularly how being part of a famous family has affected her opportunities. As the daughter of actor Eric Roberts and the niece of Academy Award-winning actress Julia Roberts, Roberts revealed that she has lost more jobs than she has gained due to people's opinions about her family.
"People have opinions, and sometimes maybe they're not good opinions of people in your family," Roberts stated. "I've never gotten a job because of it, I know I definitely have lost a couple of jobs because of it." She shared an instance where she came close to securing a role but ultimately lost it, possibly due to her family background. "I came very close. I had a British accent," she said, adding, "I was very impressed with myself, but I didn't get the part."
Roberts also mentioned a specific role that slipped away early in her career. She revealed that she was in the running for the film "I Am Sam," which ultimately went to Dakota Fanning. However, despite being only nine years old at the time, she was told she was "a little on the older side." This experience led her to develop thick skin, understanding that age bias can exist even at a young age.
The issue of nepotism in Hollywood was also a topic of discussion during the interview. Roberts questioned whether men have it easier than women in this controversial industry, suggesting that having famous family members can lead to both advantages and challenges. "People definitely have preconceived notions of you," she said. "You have to prove yourself more. Also, if people don't have [a] good experience maybe with other people in your family, then you'll never get the chance."
The actress acknowledged the perception that overnight success stories are more celebrated in Hollywood. She expressed a desire to find the perfect project to collaborate on with her aunt, Julia Roberts, but emphasized that it has to be the right opportunity. "She's the best, and I want to do something with her," Roberts said. "We send each other books and talk about stuff, but it hasn't been right."
Despite the challenges, Emma Roberts remains determined to make her mark in the industry, proving herself on her own merit. As she continues to navigate her acting career, her talent and dedication will undoubtedly shine through, irrespective of her famous family members.
