Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has declared that he would forbid the use of Apple devices within his companies if the integration of OpenAI's artificial intelligence (AI) software at the operating system level takes place. Musk, who co-founded OpenAI but had a falling-out with the San Francisco-based startup, raised concerns about the security risks associated with such collaboration.

Musk's remarks came in response to Apple's announcement during a recent presentation that customers would soon have access to OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot through the Siri digital assistant. The tech giant intends to deploy these capabilities as part of a suite of new AI features set to be released later this year.

“If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, then Apple devices will be banned at my companies," Musk wrote on X, the social network that he owns. He emphasized that this integration would be considered an unacceptable violation of security. Musk currently leads Tesla Inc. and Space Exploration Technologies Corp., in addition to his own AI startup called xAI, which is developing a ChatGPT competitor named Grok.

Musk went on to state that visitors to his companies would be required to check their Apple devices at the entrance, where they would be securely stored in a Faraday cage—a device designed to block electromagnetic fields. Apple, however, has not yet responded to Musk's remarks.

During Apple's presentation, the tech giant reassured users that privacy protections would be in place when accessing ChatGPT within Siri. Apple stated that user data would not be tracked, and precautions would be taken to obscure users' IP addresses. Nonetheless, Musk continued to take jabs at Apple, claiming that the company lacks understanding of what happens to users' data once it is handed over to OpenAI, and insinuating that Apple is incapable of developing its own AI technology.

It remains to be seen how this ongoing tension between Musk and Apple will affect the future integration of OpenAI's software. As both tech giants continue to push the boundaries of AI development, the debate surrounding security and privacy concerns promises to intensify.
