In a surprising turn of events, tech titan Elon Musk has announced his intention to ban Apple devices at his companies if the tech giant integrates OpenAI's ChatGPT at the operating system level. Musk, who is suing the present owners of OpenAI, believes that the integration of ChatGPT on iPhones would pose an "unacceptable security violation."

Taking to Twitter, Musk declared, "If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, then Apple devices will be banned at my companies." He further stated that visitors would be required to relinquish their Apple devices at the door, where they would be stored in a Faraday cage.

Musk, a co-founder of OpenAI, didn't hold back in expressing his concerns over the potential privacy implications of Apple's collaboration with the AI company. He referred to the technology as "creepy spyware," and criticized Apple for allegedly not understanding what happens to user data once it is passed on to OpenAI.

Apple has long prided itself on its commitment to user privacy, incorporating various privacy-focused features into its AI offerings. Each request made through ChatGPT on Apple devices requires user approval, and according to Apple's recent WWDC keynote, the requests and information prompted through ChatGPT will not be stored.

However, Musk remains skeptical of Apple's actions, asserting that they do not align with their words. He has been engaged in an ongoing feud with OpenAI, coining the term "woke AI chatbots" and creating his own ventures, xAI and Grok, as a counter to OpenAI and other similar companies.

Despite Musk's threats, removing iPhones and Apple devices from all his companies would prove challenging. With thousands of employees worldwide, implementing such a ban would present practical difficulties and obstacles.

OpenAI responded to Musk's concerns by emphasizing their commitment to privacy. In a press release, they stated that privacy protections are built into ChatGPT when accessed through Siri and Writing Tools, assuring users that requests are not stored and their IP addresses are obscured.

Interestingly, Apple has taken steps to enhance its privacy measures by introducing Apple Intelligence, which will partially operate on devices powered by Apple Silicon. Additionally, Apple plans to release a paper detailing their private server practices, furthering their transparency and allowing for third-party review.

The dispute between Musk and OpenAI continues to escalate, with Musk expressing his willingness to drop the lawsuit if OpenAI rebrands itself as "ClosedAI." The future of this contentious relationship remains uncertain, and the implications of Apple's integration of ChatGPT on its devices remain a subject of debate within the tech community.
