In a recent deposition that was made public on Monday, an intriguing glimpse into Elon Musk's social media activity came to light. The 108-page transcript, which took place on March 28, showcased the billionaire discussing his eccentric alternate X accounts. The deposition is part of a defamation lawsuit filed against Musk, alleging that he falsely accused a 22-year-old Jewish man of involvement in a Neo-Nazi brawl.
One of the accounts mentioned in the lawsuit is @ermnmusk, suspected by HuffPost to be a Musk burner account where he supposedly roleplays as his toddler. Musk referred to it as a "test account" that he had briefly used during the deposition. This suspicion was initially raised by Motherboard, which came across a screenshot shared in April 2023. The Wayback Machine revealed intriguing deleted tweets from this account, including references to Musk's son X AE A-XII's actual birthdate and age, as well as musings about nightclubs and Japanese girls.
The defamation lawsuit was filed by Ben Brody, the 22-year-old Jewish man who claims to have been victimized by a conspiracy theory propagated by Musk. The lawsuit contends that Musk amplified claims that Brody participated in a fake rally organized by federal agents. Musk engaged with and responded to several tweets related to this incident, and his posts on the matter are still active as of today.
During the deposition, Musk also references another alternate account, described as "baby smoke 9,000" in the court transcript. However, it is worth noting that this particular account does not exist on X. It is speculated that Musk may have been referring to the account @babysmurf9000, which has long been suspected to be another one of his burner accounts. In an article from October 2023, Musk reportedly confirmed this account as his own during an X Spaces event. Notably, the account remains active, recently tweeting on April 4.
Further examination of Musk's X platform usage during the deposition revealed his various alternate accounts. The lawsuit characterizes Musk's conduct as "astonishingly reckless." Despite the peculiar discourse found in his alternate accounts, the case primarily centers around how Musk wields his main X account, which boasts an impressive following of over 179 million users.
As the lawsuit progresses, the revelations from Musk's deposition shed light on his unconventional social media practices, sparking both curiosity and concern. Legal experts will closely monitor the outcomes of this defamation case, assessing the implications for the responsibilities of high-profile individuals on social media platforms.
