Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry announced at a security conference in Munich on Saturday that Egypt is making preparations for safe areas for Gaza refugees, emphasizing humane treatment for civilians while deeming the displacement of Palestinians unacceptable. Shoukry stated that while Egypt does not intend to provide safe areas or facilities, they will deal with the necessary humanity if required.
Qatar's Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, admitted at the same conference that recent ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas have not progressed positively in the last days. Sheikh Mohammed highlighted that issues concerning the provision of humanitarian aid and the number of prisoners to be released are major points of contention.
He suggested that the best route to resolving these issues and achieving a ceasefire agreement would be through a joint unconditional agreement. However, he expressed concern that the current negotiations were not very promising and acknowledged that time was not on their side.
The Israeli President Isaac Herzog expressed complications in communication between Hamas militants and the Qatar mediator, indicating that Hamas may be avoiding contact to prevent being detected by Israel. Amidst the discussions, the Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal Farhan reiterated their stance on normalization relations with Israel, emphasizing the necessity of a Palestinian state for security and stability.
