Gun violence plagued the streets of Chicago over the Easter weekend, resulting in the loss of seven lives and leaving dozens injured. The brutal incidents included a man being shot nine times while pumping gas and a mass shooting at a popular café.

One of the most harrowing incidents occurred at a gas station in Chicago's Home Square neighborhood on Saturday night. A 33-year-old man was pumping gas when a trio of suspects opened fire, firing gunshots and rifle rounds. The victim, despite sustaining nine gunshot wounds, managed to drive himself to Mt. Sinai Hospital. His condition remains critical. A 31-year-old woman who was also in the vehicle with him suffered gunshot wounds to her right shoulder, ribs, and arm, and is in critical condition as well.

Between 6 p.m. on Friday and 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, there were a total of 21 reported shooting incidents in Chicago, as per the data released by the Chicago Police Department on Monday. Among the 33 victims, seven lost their lives. The violence continued with another gas station shooting in East Chicago on Saturday night, claiming one life and leaving a second victim with non-life-threatening injuries.

A tragic mass shooting unfolded on Sunday morning on Chicago's West Side. A 19-year-old woman was fatally shot inside Poppy's Chat Room café when an unknown suspect opened fire on a group of people. The woman was struck in the head and succumbed to her injuries. Four others, including two teen girls, a 19-year-old woman, and a 20-year-old woman, sustained injuries in the incident.

In another senseless act of violence, a 16-year-old boy was shot and killed in the Austin neighborhood on Sunday afternoon. The teen was gunned down on a sidewalk, and three other men, aged 21, 25, and 25, were wounded in the shooting. The suspects, who pulled up to the group on the sidewalk and opened fire, fled the scene before police arrived.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with any of these tragic incidents. The Chicago Police Department continues to investigate the shootings and urges anyone with information to come forward. The city's residents are left devastated by the surge of gun violence over the Easter weekend, with many expressing their concern for the safety and well-being of the community.

The shocking rise in shootings over what should have been a peaceful holiday weekend serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by the city of Chicago in combating gun violence. Efforts to address this issue and promote community safety remain crucial, as local authorities and organizations strive to find viable solutions to prevent further loss of life in the future.
