An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale struck near the small Texas town of Falls City early Saturday morning. The seismic activity, centered about 2 miles southeast of Falls City, was felt up to dozens of miles away, with reports of tremors reaching San Antonio, located about 45 miles to the northwest. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of significant damage or injuries resulting from the quake that occurred at 12:32 a.m., as stated by the U.S. Geological Survey.
Preceding this event, a 4.4 magnitude earthquake had hit the same area just 10 minutes earlier. This recent quake is part of a series of seismic events in the region, with about 30 earthquakes recorded in the past three weeks, although the majority were of a lower magnitude. Falls City, with a population of around 500 residents, remains vigilant as the area continues to experience increased seismic activity.
